  1. To note apologies for absence received.
  2. Disclosure of Pecuniary Interests

    a) To receive any disclosure of pecuniary interest - Members are reminded that they must not participate in the discussion or voting on any matter in which they have a Disclosable Pecuniary Interest and should leave the room prior to the commencement of the debate.

    b) To consider any applications for Dispensations under s33 of the Localism Act 2011.

  3. Public Participation

    A period of 15 minutes will be set aside for residents of Wem Town to speak.

    To approve as a correct record the minutes of the ordinary meeting of the Town Council held on 26.3.26

  5. Co-option – to consider and vote on co-option applications.

     

     

  6. Reports

    a) To consider the Clerks progress report on decisions made at previous meetings.

    b) To receive written reports from the Council’s representatives to other bodies.

    c) To receive a written report from Shropshire Councillors for Wem Area.

  7. Planning Applications

    a) To note the recent planning decisions.

    b) Planning Applications – to consider.

    i) 26/01135/FUL Provision of new Astro Turf with Cricket Nets,: Wem Cricket Club, Kynaston Cricket Ground, Soulton Road, Wem.

    ii) 26/01156/FUL Erection of first floor side extension: 14 Pyms Road, Wem.

    iii) 26/01376/FUL:  Proposed two storey rear extension with single storey link to garage and single storey kitchen extension, Laxmi, Station Road, Wem, SY4 5BL

    vi) 26/01418/LBC: Proposal:  The installation of an automated teller machine and associated signage, 39 - 41 High Street, Wem, SY4 5DG

  9. Events Liaison Group Meeting held 16th April 2026

     to receive notes from meeting and consider any recommendations in the notes.

  10. Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre

    a) Liaison Group meeting 22nd April 2026- to receive notes from meeting and consider any recommendations in the notes.

    b) Charge increases – to consider.

  11. Town Council Business Plan

    a) Plan Review - to undertake 6 monthly review of priorities in the plan.

    b) Community consultation – to consider the proposal to undertake a whole Town Community Consultation.

  12. Public Toilets

     to review Legionella Management Policy and consider Action Plan created following Legionella Risk Assessment for the Recreation Ground Toilet.

  13. Memorial Testing

     to consider report outlining options for memorials that failed the 2026 inspection.

  14. Councillor Motions

    a) To consider motion from Cllr Towers - To consider inviting strategic Shropshire Council Planners to meet with Wem Town Councillors and our Shropshire Councillors to discuss the planning sites and applications around the town and the way these are to be/are being processed.

    b) To consider motion from Cllr Hoffmann  to review in open council the ongoing issues which are now prevalent with residents of Wem, over the current situation with Chemist facilities in town. This follows the recent closure of Rowlands Chemist in Morris Square

  15. Talbot House –

     to consider quote to alter signage on the building.

  16. Correspondence

    a) Barber Trust – to  consider request that Dave Granger is nominated as a trustee

    b) Tree planting Wheatfields – to consider complaint received.

    c) Shropshire Council Streetlighting Joint Energy Agreement – to approve the 2026-27 prices.

    d) Stall Meadow – to consider letter concerning tackling anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of the public open space.

  17. Dates of future meetings

     to note the date and time of the May Annual Town Council meeting and the May Ordinary meeting

  18. Exclusion of Public and Press

    To resolve that as publicity would be prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted, the public and press be excluded from the meeting in accordance with Section 1 of the Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960.

The Town Council meets on the last Thursday of every month except December at 7.00 p.m in the Meeting Room, Wem Library High Street  Wem.
The Town Council meeting starts with Public Question time and residents can attend and raise issues with the members.
A copy of the agenda for these meetings is displayed on the notice board outside the Town Hall, High Street and on this website.
