
As we continue to mourn the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, below is an update on what will be happening in Wem over the next couple of days.
Th To coincide with the Proclamation of King Charles III at St James’ Palace all flags have been raised prior.
The flags will be lowered again and mourning bands will be re attached at 1pm on Sunday. The flags will then remain lowered until after the State Funeral of Her Majesty.
The County Proclamation of King Charles III:
Rosemary Dodd, Deputy Mayor of Wem will represent the Council and Town at the County Proclamation of King Charles III which will take place at 1pm on Sunday at The Quarry in Shrewsbury. The County Proclamation will be presided over by the High Sheriff of Shropshire.
Once the Shrewsbury proclamation has been heard Cllr Dodd will return to Wem to read the Proclamation of King Charles III.
This will take place on the Jubilee Square, Central Car Park Wem at 4pm on Sunday in a very brief ceremony expected to last approx. 15 minutes.
In accordance with protocol, civic invitations have been issued for this event, members of the public are also welcome to attend to hear the proclamation. we would request that if at all possible, you do not drive to the proclamation or park at Edinburgh House and walk
