Wem Town Council – Councillor Vacancy Co-Option notice

Wem Town Council has a vacancy arising from the resignation of Cllr Peter White who represented the East Ward which can now be filled by co-option.

Eligibility criteria to be a Councillor – in order to be eligible to stand as a councillor you must meet at least one of the following four qualifications:

a) You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish/community in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.
b) You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish/community area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of co-option.
c) Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of co-option has been in the parish/community area.
d) You have lived in the parish/community area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of co-option.

Prospective candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the disqualification restrictions under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972 relating to Bankruptcy Restrictions Orders and Criminal Convictions carrying a sentence of more than 3 months imprisonment, without the option of a fine.

Applicants are asked to submit an application in writing, setting out why you wish to be considered as a councillor and any qualities or experience that you have that you think would benefit the Town Council

Applications must be submitted to the Town Clerk at Wem Town Council, Edinburgh House, New Street, Wem SY4 5DB or via email to info@wem.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 19th September 2018.

Applications will be considered at the September Town Council meeting to be held on 27.9.18
